Tennis World Outrageously Criticized for " Herms In Food, Yellow Pillows" Statement on India

Dejana Radanovic says her comments were about the country of India and not the people of India therefore cannot be called racist.

The Serbian tennis player Dejana Radanovic, who was in India lately to take part in three International Tennis Federation tournaments, is in the eye of the storm for her racialized comments regarding India.

In a series of posts on social media Radanovic lamented the "food, traffic and hygiene of India".

In one of her posts Radanovic - who had spent nearly two weeks in India - expressed, "Adios India. See you never ever ever or ever EVER again," with an image of the airport.

Upon arrival in Munich, Radanovic made another post saying, “Hello civilisation. Only people who have experienced like India for 3 weeks can understand the feeling.”

About driving she wrote, “ But I should say that they are wonderful drivers and traffic was … sometimes. It’s hard to predict your day - events might happen and everyone is honking all the time, just like in a traffic rush game.”

The protest against the posts has also resulted in Radanovic making another Instagram Stories update which, it seems, is an explanation of her position. Radanovic has kept on asserting that her comments are not about individuals in India but the nation and hence, cannot be called racist.

She wrote, “ Omg I can't even believe the things that we have to discuss now. I didn't like the India country. I didn't like the food, traffic, sanitation (worms in the food, yellow pillows and dirty bed linen in the hotel, not knowing how to use a roundabout etc.)

Additionally, Radanovic asserted that “If you come to my country, Serbia, and do not like all those same things, this means that you are a racist. What the hell does that have to do with racism?! I have friends of all nationalities and colors. Therefore, don’t go there because this is absolute NONSENSE!”

Radanovic, aged 27, took part in three events of W50 in Pune, Bengaluru, and Indore in India.
